The Day Sun was humiliated

On 11th March 2006, the fusion of energia between the two never-say-die teams just made the heat of the sun oblivious. Sun humiliated by the sheer ignorance, tried to come out with renewed energy on many times, only to meet the same least-bothered treatment. It was only KriKet that was on the mind of all. The enthusiasm and spirit was unmistakable. The entire day adrenaline ran high through both the teams competing to outflank the other. It was in all measure a great day of cricket. Though, Iqbal-11 (BSD4) won the match by a cool 50+ runs and did outplay Lagaan-11 (FAs) in all department, except fielding where both frittered away catching chances, still each one enjoyed the fun.

Four boys came specifically from Mysore, and one of them, Sijo (Iqbal-11) romped away with the Man of the Match title. Batting first, he scored a brisk 50 which simply took the match away from the opposition. At one point of time, the scoring rate was so high, that 200 in 20 overs looked obvious. But there is one way when a batsman can be out even if he does not commit any wrong on his own, and that's run-out. But till then he had done enough to place his team in a comfortable position with a healthy total on board. And. in the second innings he simply mesmerized every one by his control on the ball. That was the death knell. But the best bowler of the day was Umesh (Iqbal-11) who, in spite of fielders dropping catches every now and then, bagged 4 wickets.

Like every cricket match, this one too had its share of tense moments as well. One when Siva (wicket-keeper, Lagann-11) was convinced that ball had kissed the stumps and appealed vigorously for the wicket, only to be turned down by both the umpires. It may have been the only controversial decision as umpires themselves were not clear, but as is the norm benefit-of-doubt always goes in Batsman's favor.

Apart from cricket, the members of the team gelled well among themselves, got to know each other better, and were party to some real practical jokes. One such:
A Fielder : "How many are out?”
Scorer: "7 gone!"
Fielder: "How many left to go?”
[May be the fielder engrossed in the proceedings for a moment forgot that only 10 wickets can fell in a one-day inning.]

I thank everyone who was a part of it and made it a success. Thanks to all the organizers, especially Lokesh, Mukul and Atish for putting their effort right from the start till the end to see that every thing is in place. Thanks Pankaj, for being the meticulous score-keeper. And lastly, thanks Deepak for his support and help.
